Lukes Lane Community Group holds business meetings at 10.30 am, every Thursday at the Community House, 23 Hastings Parade. Visitors are welcome at all of our meetings. If you can’t come and would like to put an item on the agenda then call John on: 423 4239 or Diane on 4280056 If, for whatever reason, you cannot get out of your home to visit us, get in touch and we’ll visit you. Although we have discontinued posting our minutes online, community group minutes are availabel upon request from any of the above telephone numbers or by emailing us at: lukeslane_cg@yahoo.co.uk .

DRUGS TREATMENT HELPLINES

Many drug treatment agencies here in South Tyneside can and do offer outreach work throughout the borough. If clients are unable to access the services provided then all of the services can make arrangements to do a home visit, set up a meeting at their G.P’s surgery, or make use of any community houses, libraries and other public buildings that have suitable rooms to ensure privacy and confidentiality.

Within some of the agencies there are family support workers who work full-time and cover the whole borough. They offer support, advice and information to parents, carers, families and friends who are concerned about a loved one with substance misuse problems and issues. They work with anyone from the age of 11-19 year olds for some services while others concentrate on those who are over the age of 18.

MATRIX young people’s service

MATRIX works with young people under 19, families and carers whose lives have been affected by substance use or those who are at risk of developing substance use issues. They offer a confidential service in a friendly surrounding, located in South Shields town centre. They will see anyone who wishes to call in for further information without an appointment.

Barnardo’s Street Level Family Service

Street Level provides a comprehensive service for drug and/or alcohol users aged 18 and over, their families and friends, within the Borough of South Tyneside. They also provide on request training and consultation for other organisations. Street Level Family Service is an access point for the MATRIX service, Time to Talk and South Tyneside Domestic Abuse Perpetrators Programme

Addictions Service South Tyneside

Addictions Service South Tyneside is an integrated Heath and Social Care Team covering the whole of South Tyneside. They offer support and treatment to those who have a drug and alcohol problem. The team is made up of doctors, nurses, social workers and our support worker. They also have a Psychology Dept and an occupational therapist.

The South Tyne NECA service provides a welcoming, informal environment. The skilled, experienced staff are ready to listen and make appropriate responses to individual needs. The service is free and confidential. They provide information on substances, the use of substances, gambling dependency issues and local services. They offer counselling, group work and ongoing support for users, family and friends.
